Automotive Wholesalers Association of New England

A Long History of Excellence

AWANE, Automotive Wholesalers Association of New England, is a non-profit automotive trade association organized for the benefit of member companies in automotive-related businesses throughout New England, specifically in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

AWANE has the answers and solutions. Since 1929 AWANE has sponsored group health, dental, vision, life, short-term, and long-term disability programs, and a self-funded workers’ compensation program in the state of Massachusetts. AWANE has not only been a solution for employee benefits, but we continue to stay strong for our members to advocate, protect, and grow.

AWANE also provides our members with industry information and updates, business bulletins, health bulletins, and much more.

The average AWANE member stays with us and utilizes our programs for more than 13 years, and our member retention rate is over 99%.

The association is the sponsor of the AWANE Insurance Trust, which has been in existence since 1962. The AWANE Trust was originally formed as an entity to provide group policies to association member companies for life, accident, and health insurance.

The Trust was restructured in 1983, and then again in 2002. The restructuring in 2002 created one plan, The Automotive Wholesalers Association of New England Health and Welfare Benefit Plan. This plan functions as one plan with two Trusts under it. The VEBA Trust, called the AWANE Health Benefit Trust, is a tax exempt trust which sponsors health and dental plans. The Non-VEBA Trust, called the AWANE Welfare Benefit Trust sponsors the Life, Accidental Death and Disbursement, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability programs.

Automotive, Roads, and Fuel Industries

AWANE and its strong membership base represent the many businesses associated with the automotive, roads, and fuel industries, which are a critical part of the United States economy. The most recent report from The Center for Automotive Research estimates that the automotive industry alone accounts for almost eight million jobs, $500 billion in annual employee compensation, and helps to generate $70 billion in taxes. The automotive industry is also the single largest exporting sector of the U.S. economy, exporting $125 billion in vehicles and parts.

The most important asset to the automotive, roads, and fuel industries are its people. Working hard to make vehicles more efficient and safe, keep roads running smoothly, and make fuel more clean and eco-friendly, United States automotive workers have a tremendous impact on day-to-day life in America. Constant innovation and growth relies on the health of the workforce and having the ability to properly manage the programs behind the people – your employee benefits .

AWANE exists to protect your company’s most valuable assets. In these uncertain and rapidly changing times in the benefits marketplace, AWANE is dedicated to providing programs specifically tailored to our membership, and providing best-in-class rates and unparalleled member service.
